Make America Free - 2017
During the 2016 presidential election Trump created a slogan that defined his campaign, “Make America Great Again”. This became a very controversial driving force behind the narrative of those who supported Trump versus those who did not. I found this whole dynamic to be interesting. It created a division solely influenced by the voters of their perspective party. These events influenced a collection of art titled “Make America Free” with sub-slogans directly highlighting things we deserve to be free from. I used figure-ground relationship, a perceptual grouping that challenges how we look at the figure from its background. This visual dynamic reflected a similar parallel that society became so focused on the figure (Trump) that they forgot the importance of the background (Humanity). We all play a role. Unite.
